The Museum of Astronomical Sciences was opened in 1969, as the first public planetarium in Romania. The analog and opto-mechanical planetary system was modernized in 2015 with the state-of-the-art Zeiss Skymaster ZKP4 fiber optic star projector, manufactured by the German company ZEISS, which uses fiber optics, LED technology and industrial computers to simulate a starry sky with over 7000 stars, installed in the 6 m dome. In 2021, the endowment was completed by an additional digital projection system from RSA Cosmos.
